Steve Roman was a founding partner of FirstStrategic, Communications & Public Affairs. FirstStrategic is one of Arizona’s leading strategic communications and public policy firms. Roman led the firm’s marketing and public relations lines of business and also focused on public policy issues affecting the corporate community. He retired from the firm in 2019.
Prior to founding FirstStrategic, Roman was Senior Vice President, with one of Arizona’s largest corporations, which is now Chase Bank. He was responsible for Media Relations, Community Affairs, Government Relations, and special projects. He also functioned as the corporation’s official spokesman for this region.
Roman has an over thirty-five year history of involvement within his Arizona community. He chaired the state’s efforts to get a voter approved Martin Luther King Jr. holiday in Arizona in 1992. He was a key member of the Governor’s Bio Initiative task force, primarily responsible for fundraising and helped to raise $100 million that led to the formation of the Translational Genomics Research Institute (TGen) in 2002. He also oversaw a charitable foundation which contributed $4.0 million annually to a variety of Arizona causes for many years; and negotiated a $140 million 30-year naming rights and sponsorship agreement with the Arizona Diamondbacks for Bank One Ballpark, now known as Chase Field.
Roman is past Chairman of the Board of the Arizona Chamber of Commerce and past President of the Board of Trustees of the Desert Botanical Garden. He and his wife, Terry, have two children and reside in Phoenix.
