Shannon Corcoran
UrbanPlan Instructor, Corona del Sol High School
Shannon Corcoran is a 20-year veteran teacher of the Tempe Union High School District, a public high school district that serves 13,000 diverse students annually. In her role as an educator , she has helped to lead her district by serving both as a teacher and serving on committees that create Economic related curriculum. This focus helps to further the
state goals of personal finance and Economics education. This work helps to inform a common understanding of topics to be taught in grades 9-12.
Key areas of focus include personal finance, understanding how markets work in relation to supply and demand, types of business organizations and competition, how the national/ global economy works, and how to apply Economic concepts to real life scenarios through the use of UrbanPlan in partnership with the Urban Land Institute.
Since August of 2008, Shannon has been working with the Urban Land Institute to teach
students how to apply economics in real world ways. She is an avid supporter of the
UrbanPlan Program and had helped guide approximately 400 students a year through
the program for the last 20 years.
Shannon holds a Bachelors degree in History Education with a Minor in Economics
through Northern Arizona University and a Masters degree in curriculum and instruction
through Arizona State University. Shannon is passionate about teaching and loves
doing what she does.
